I thought she had taken lessons before TOD =/
rumor had it, she did. but for some reason her singing style changed so much and seemed like a downgrade. i loved her voice in Fallen, and obviously the pre-fallen stuff. it was so genuine. she started doing these weird scoopy things and raspy things and i donno... and her pronunciation/enunciation of words... it was so ...bad! The Open Door was just vocally hard for me to listen to as someone who has been studying voice for the past 3 years. I may not have all the technique down in my performance but i can at least HEAR it, and some of the stuff she was doing is going to cause her to have major problems down the road if she doesn't correct it. she's definitely got it in her. we've heard it. i'll be giving the new music a chance as always, in hopes that the Evanescence i used to love can capture my ears and my heart once again. We'll see.

y'all are so negative.
if anything, all this WATF stuff has me really pulling for Amy. I legitimately loved the open door (save for lose control, aka, the song that shall not be named). I'm sure that anything else amy puts out will be decent and enjoyable. I feel like everyone is reading all the drama and hype and they're so eager to believe that amy's personality is bad, therefore the music must be bad. It's kind of stupid.
All this stupid band drama is not my own and I refuse to get involved in it anymore. I'm over it. I love ben. I love amy. They're both excellent song-writers. And there we go.

well, if any of that was inspired by anything i've said here, this is entirely untrue. not sure if this goes for any of the other people on this board, but personally i really just hate the open door. i dont like the songs, i dont like how she sings. i know many of my die-hard evanescence fan friends who felt the same way and never listen to that album. i haven't been reading any drama and hype, because frankly, i don't care. i didn't even watch the interviews. i don't go on any boards but this one and i don't sit around all day looking for online articles about bands i listen to. so rest assured, that my thoughts are based on my own pure ideas that The Open Door didn't do it for me, and if anything Amy releases in the future sounds anything like it, I won't like that either.

I have to say that the first time i listened to TOD i didn't like it at all. But after many times of listening i distinguished some good (compared to the other songs in the album) songs. And for me these are Sweet sacrifice, call me when you're sober, weight of the world, lithium, the only one, all that i'm living for and good enough. In fact the only one is the first song i liked thanks to its bridge. But as far as the other songs are concerned i can't stand them! I hate them. I've given them chances to make them likeable to me but nothing...

I agree with you Katie. If anything, I want them to one-up each other as far as the music is concerned. If We Are the Fallen puts out something, I want Ev to top it, then We Are the Fallen to top them then Ev to top them again and so on and so forth. If you think about it, that's actually how they started off as a band. They competed against each other to see who'd write the best songs.

I'll ditto H2a on this one. I think SOME people are making this out to be more dramatic than it is, for sure. But for me, at least, it's about the music. I thought TOD was Ok at best. Then, this weekend I popped in Fallen again whilst cleaning my abode, and I was just blown away again. I can confidently say that it is the combination of Ben and Amy and David that I loved about Evanescence prior to TOD. Since then, notsomuch. I almost don't care. I'lll give the new Ev stuff a listen, but I am not expecting the same feeling I get from Origin and Fallen. But, hopefully I'll be surprised.

Is so beatifull... more beatiful than ever! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gcub4Fk-JgNo matter how much I dislike TOD (not because of the drama like some said, but because it's a mediocre-at-best album), I still get the shivers when I hear Amy's voice, especially on acoustic songs. For example, if I hear Field of Innocence, I become completely useless for 5 minutes and 14 seconds. This video gave me the same effect. Even in Death, the same. Besides those, I've always enjoyed Imaginary and My Last Breath, even craved for some of those songs in the Fallen album. TOD just repels me, however. Some people get along well, others don't, and no matter how good a musician Terry Patrick David Balsamo is, I believe he and Amy are not right for each other. Maybe she would be better off with another writing partner, I don't know who that could be though. But I know that I'll still be checking out her new album, if it ever comes out. (Besides, every artist needs a "mediocre-at-best" album in their career, to learn from mistakes and learn to be better. I just hope Amy has...)

But Amy doesn't think TOD is a mediocre album. She thinks it's somewhat perfect =P

I actually liked most of TOD and I don't understand the drama behind it. At the end of the day, if you like or dislike the music, you'll either listen to it or put the cd in a stack somewhere.

There's nothing wrong with liking both bands. Heck, I even like TOD a bit. It's not old Ev though. Old Ev was just amazing. To me, that will probably never be recreated. Amy and Carly's vocals aren't even in the same range so it makes no sense to be comparing them.

Range or not, doesn't matter. Carly is copying Amy's style. And I can say this with a completely unbiased perspective - I've been a fan of Carly's since AI season 7, and the way she sang in Bury Me Alive was NOT her style, it was an Amyrehash.
